Discovering the Health Benefits of Chinese Calligraphy: My Healing Journey

A decade ago, every morning, I would wake up feeling overwhelmed with a sense of anxiety, fear, and stress about the day ahead. As a mother and healthcare practitioner, I was constantly consumed by duties, obligations, responsibilities, and accountability, which left little to no time for myself. It was a constant challenge to find a sense of emotional freedom from my roles and the pressures that came with them.

One day, my husband surprised me with a Chinese Calligraphy set, which had been a passion of mine that I had neglected for years. The unexpected gift brought me to tears, and the joy, excitement, and anticipation I felt were indescribable.

I remember I first learned the art form from my father, a doctor with a deep passion for Chinese calligraphy, at the age of 6. I regularly practiced under his supervision until my early twenties. However, my professional and family commitments left me with very little time to pursue my interests.

I spent three whole hours practicing calligraphy with my new brushes. The uninterrupted time I had to indulge in my passion gave me a sense of peace, calm, and relaxation. Through the practice, I was able to connect with my emotions and express myself through art, which gave me a renewed sense of purpose. Creating something with my hands was incredibly fulfilling and allowed me to tap into my creative side in a way that I had not experienced before. The exceptional sense of tranquility and relaxation I felt while practicing calligraphy was incredibly therapeutic.

As I continued to practice, I began to incorporate Chinese calligraphy into my daily routine, exploring various mediums and techniques to make it more personal and expressive. It became a therapeutic activity that helped me cope with emotional trauma in ways that conventional therapy and medication could not. The practice allowed me to tap into a deeper level of self-awareness, which brought me a sense of peace and balance that I had been missing.

I started to share my art with others, and I found that people responded positively, which brought me immense joy and a sense of purpose that was both meaningful and rewarding. I soon realized that calligraphy was more than just a way of creating beautiful art. It was a powerful tool that helped me connect with others, express emotions, and heal from trauma.

Chinese calligraphy has a history that dates back over 3000 years and has been proven to have therapeutic benefits. The practice involves a deep connection between the body, mind, and spirit, allowing individuals to focus on the present moment and quiet their minds.

As a Chinese calligrapher, I am humbled and grateful to be able to share the beauty and significance of this ancient art form with the world. I hope to raise awareness about the therapeutic benefits of Chinese calligraphy and enable people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels to experience and appreciate its unique beauty. It brings me joy to witness the transformative effects of calligraphy on individuals who have never before experienced this art form, and I am honored to be a part of their journey toward healing, inner peace, and balance.

I am a catalyst for transformation, helping women find the strength and resilience within themselves to embark on a journey of inner healing. My mission is to remind women that childbirth wounds are not their fault, and that they have the power to choose how they live their lives in the aftermath of their experiences. By healing ourselves from the inside out, we can not only improve our own well-being, but also create a positive ripple effect on those around us, including our children and families.

As the founder and CEO of Childbirth Collective, I have created a safe and nurturing space where women can find support in healing from childbirth-related traumas. Through this community, women can rediscover their sense of self and come back home to themselves. We believe in the power of letting go of limiting beliefs that no longer serve us and replacing them with expansive and supportive ones.

Together, we can create a movement of women who are empowered to heal and thrive in the aftermath of their childbirth experiences. I am honored to be a part of this journey with each and every one of you.
